Trip readiness checklist for Cyprus

Every destination has its quirks — greetings, queueing, meal times, what's rude and what's required. Here's the trip-readiness checklist for Cyprus: what to pack, when to go, entry rules for your passport, and the official sources to confirm before you fly.

What to pack

Cyprus is beach sun with a mountain surprise. Pack for heat, but throw in a layer — the Troodos hills run cool while the coast bakes.

When to go

July–August is very hot and busiest on the coasts. May–June and September–October are the sweet spot — warm sea, open everything, calmer beaches. Winter is mild and quiet.

Money & getting around

Cyprus (the Republic) is on the euro (€); cards work widely. If you cross into the north, that side runs on Turkish lira and separate rules — carry your passport for the crossing. Tipping ~5–10% is appreciated. A hire car unlocks the island; they drive on the left.

Local quirks worth knowing

Every destination has its quirks — greetings, queueing, meal times, what's rude and what's required. A five-minute read on Cyprus's local customs before you land pays for itself all trip.

What am I forgetting?

A real answer from TripHappens for a sample week in Cyprus, departing in five weeks with a checked bag and nothing packed yet. Yours is built from your own trip.

Five weeks out, bag empty. Here's what Cyprus will ask for.

  1. 1.

    A real layer for Troodos

Late October on the Limassol coast is still warm, but the Troodos hills run cool and your packing list stops at everyday shoes. Add a proper jacket or fleece before the sun-only instinct wins.

  2. 2.

    US entry rules for Cyprus

You're travelling on a US passport and nothing has been checked yet. Open the entry card and read the official source for Cyprus rather than assuming a beach week needs nothing.

  3. 3.

    Driving-on-the-left homework

A hire car opens up the island, but Cyprus drives on the left and you'd be doing it cold. Check now what licence documents your rental company wants, and book before the October window fills.

Entry, advisories & health

Safety-critical — always confirm live at the official source before you book.
