When to go
July–August is very hot and busiest on the coasts. May–June and September–October are the sweet spot — warm sea, open everything, calmer beaches. Winter is mild and quiet.
Money & getting around
Cyprus (the Republic) is on the euro (€); cards work widely. If you cross into the north, that side runs on Turkish lira and separate rules — carry your passport for the crossing. Tipping ~5–10% is appreciated. A hire car unlocks the island; they drive on the left.

You can walk across at Ledra Street with a passport; a hire car may not be insured on the other side. Check before you drive through.
Drive on the left
Another British inheritance, along with three-pin plugs. Roundabouts and speed cameras are taken seriously.
Coffee is a verb
Frappé in summer, Cypriot coffee any time, ordered by sweetness. Sit for an hour; that is what it is for.
Meze means stop ordering
A meze is fifteen to twenty dishes for the table. Do not order starters first, and do not arrive hungry for a quick bite.
Sunday and siesta
Shops close Sunday and often Wednesday afternoon; villages sleep after lunch in summer. Beaches, obviously, do not.
