When to go
Spring (Mar–May) and autumn (Sep–Nov) are ideal — warm but not brutal. Summer is very hot, especially at Petra and in the desert; winter is cool and can be cold at night. Petra is busiest midday.
Money & getting around
Jordan uses the dinar (JOD), one of the world's higher-value currencies — prices feel small but aren't. Carry cash for taxis, markets, and small towns; cards work in cities and hotels. Haggling is normal in souks. The Jordan Pass (buy before arrival) bundles Petra and the visa — worth it.

Accept the hospitality
'Ahlan wa sahlan' (welcome) comes with tea, and refusing outright can disappoint. One glass costs ten minutes and earns real warmth.
Dress modestly outside the resorts
Shoulders and knees covered in towns and Amman's older quarters; Aqaba's beach zones and Wadi Rum camps are relaxed.
Friday changes the tempo
The holy day: quieter mornings, busy mosques, family afternoons. Petra stays open — and is gloriously calmer at opening time.

Destination notes say the Jordan Pass bundles Petra entry with the visa, and it has to be bought before you arrive. Sort it now rather than at the airport, and check the official Jordan Pass terms for what your case requires.

Cards work in Amman hotels, but taxis, souks and small towns run on cash, and the dinar is a high-value currency so small-looking prices add up. Plan how you'll get JOD on arrival and carry small notes.

Your packing list stops at comfortable everyday shoes, and Petra is endless stone steps in desert sun. Add sturdy walking shoes, a hat and high-SPF sunscreen, plus a warm layer for cool desert nights in late October.
