When to go
Spring (Mar–May) and autumn (Sep–Nov) are ideal — warm but not brutal. Summer is scorching inland (Marrakech, the desert); coastal cities stay milder. Ramadan changes daytime hours and dining — check the dates.
Money & getting around
Morocco uses the dirham (MAD), a closed currency you get on arrival rather than before. Cash rules in medinas and small towns; cards work in hotels and bigger shops. Haggling is expected in souks — start low and stay friendly. Tipping is woven into daily life for small services.

Mint tea is a ceremony, not a beverage
Poured high, offered often, refusing outright can sting. Accept at least a glass — 'Berber whisky' comes with the friendship included.
Ask before photographing people
Especially in the souks and squares — many expect a few dirhams for posing, and snapping without asking earns real anger.
'Helpful' guides find you, not vice versa
Unofficial guides materialize near medina gates. A firm 'la, shukran' and forward motion works; if you do want help, agree the price first.
Friday is couscous day
The holy day: some shops close midday, and the couscous is at its best. Time your medina plans (and your lunch) accordingly.
