What to pack
Slovenia is Alpine lakes, caves, and a tiny coast — green and walkable. Pack layers for mountain weather, sturdy shoes, and a swimsuit for Lake Bled and the spas.
Layers for mountain weather
Alpine conditions shift fast; pack a warm layer even in summer.
Sturdy walking/hiking shoes
The Julian Alps, gorges, and caves reward proper footwear.
A swimsuit
Lake Bled, Bohinj, and thermal spas are highlights.
A rain jacket
Mountain showers arrive quickly.
When to go
Summer (Jun–Aug) is peak for the lakes and hiking and busiest; ski season fills the Alps in winter. Spring and autumn are quieter and lovely (autumn colours around Bled). Lake Bled gets crowded midday — go early.
Money & getting around
Slovenia's on the euro (€). Cards are widely accepted; carry a little cash for small mountain huts and markets. Tipping is modest — round up or ~10%. It's compact, so you can see a lot in a few days.

Five weeks out, a week in Slovenia. Three gaps.
- 1.
ETIAS status for October 2026
ETIAS is expected to start in late 2026, which is exactly when you travel. Check the official ETIAS site before you fly, and confirm your passport was issued within the last 10 years and stays valid at least three months past your return.
- 2.
Warm layers and rain shell
Late October in Alpine Slovenia means mountain weather, and your packing list stops at everyday shoes. Add a waterproof layer, a warm mid-layer and sturdy footwear for Bled and the caves.
- 3.
Swimsuit for the thermal spas
Slovenia's spas and Bled are a swimsuit country even in autumn, and it is the easiest thing to leave at home in October. Pack one, plus a little cash for mountain huts and markets where cards may not work.
